Just shortly after Benjamin Netanyahu's strong statement that he does not accept the creation of a Palestinian state after the end of the war with Hamas, the White House announced that President Joe Biden has called the Israeli prime minister.
They discussed at length, the release said, efforts to secure the release of all hostages still held by Hamas, as well as Israel's shift in strategy toward more specific military operations.
According to National Security Council spokesman John Kirby, Washington and Tel Aviv continue to disagree over the Palestinian state as a political goal for post-war Gaza.
However, the White House denied that Netanyahu's statement was a factor in making the call, the first in nearly a month.

"There are some countries that are members of the UN, which... do not have their own army; some countries have restrictions. So I think there are ways that this can work," said Biden, who also dismissed the idea that a two-state solution between Israelis and Palestinians might not be possible under Israel's current government.
The United States therefore welcomes Israel's decision to allow the shipment of flour to the Palestinian people directly from the port of Ashdod, while the United States is working on more direct sea routes for the delivery of aid to Gaza.
