The former Italian officer was sentenced to 20 years in prison for selling

The Court of Rome has sentenced Navy officer Walter Biot to 20 years in prison, following accusations of espionage and corruption.

He was arrested in March 2021 in a shopping mall parking lot in the capital after he was caught passing classified information to Russian embassy officials in exchange for 5,000 euros.

For this matter, Biot, currently detained in the military prison of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, has already been sentenced by the Court of First Instance to 30 years in prison.

Prosecutors, who called for the officer to be sentenced to life in prison, pointed out that the 19 documents that Walter Biot had photographed with his mobile phone were classified as "NATO confidential" and considered "top secret".
