The United States has presented a draft peace agreement for the war in Ukraine to its European allies, according to Bloomberg.
The draft, according to Bloomberg information, provides for a ceasefire and a partial lifting of sanctions against Russia.
The draft proposed by the US was shared during meetings in Paris on Thursday, according to European officials familiar with the matter, Bloomberg reports.
According to European diplomats, the US proposal essentially involves a "freeze" of the conflict with Russian forces remaining in occupied Ukrainian territories, while setting aside Ukraine's request for NATO membership.
The proposal would effectively freeze the war, with Ukrainian territories now occupied by Russia remaining under Moscow's control, the sources said.
Kiev's ambitions for NATO membership will also be off the table. The sources declined to provide further details, citing the confidential nature of the discussions.
According to Bloomberg, the issue of lifting sanctions while Russia continues to occupy large areas of Ukraine could prove problematic for some of Kiev's allies. The lifting of European Union sanctions, including the release of frozen Russian assets, requires the support of all member states.
The draft comes after comments by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who noted that either a solution will be found very soon, or the US will move on to other issues.
"We're not going to continue with this effort for weeks or even months," Rubio said, adding that the US has "other priorities to focus on."
