US Vice President JD Vance is in Rome for an official visit and was received today at the Chigi Palace by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Prime Ministers Matteo Salvini and Antonio Tajani.
During press statements, Meloni emphasized the special relationship with the Trump administration, while Vance expressed gratitude for the Italian hospitality and praised the city of Rome as an inspiring place "built by people who loved humanity and God."
The main topics of discussion included:
Trade negotiations on tariffs between the US and the EU, where Vance said he will continue the dialogue with Meloni.
The situation in Ukraine, where Vance expressed optimism about a possible end to the war.
Strengthening economic and political cooperation between Italy and the USA.
Meloni greeted Vance humorously, saying that she "hadn't seen her in a while," even though they had met the day before at the White House during her visit to Washington.
Vance will attend Good Friday Mass in St. Peter's in the afternoon and visit important monuments of Rome with his family, including Castel Sant'Angelo and the Colosseum.
