The politician who served as prime minister of the fictional separatist Republic of Luhansk in 2014 says that "for the US, the 'Ukrainian case' no longer has any value; they just want to get rid of it."
Europe, which failed to isolate Russia, now finds itself isolated.
Trump's US no longer considers Moscow part of the "so-called axis of evil" and therefore simply wants to "eliminate" the conflict in Ukraine.
And speaking specifically about the war on Europe's borders, Putin will not make any concessions "on NATO, territory or the size of the Ukrainian armed forces. It is a rigid official position. Everything else is shades of gray."
This is what Marat Bashirov, a political scientist close to Vladimir Putin, who in 2014 was prime minister of the fictional separatist Republic of Luhansk, said in an interview with Corriere della Sera.
"In reaching a peace agreement," he continues, referring to the conflict with Kiev, "in my opinion, other factors are at play.
With Trump, the US has changed the paradigm for promoting its interests. It has long been known that its main competitor worldwide is China.
This necessarily forces the White House to no longer consider us part of the so-called 'axis of crime'.
As a result, the 'Ukrainian case' no longer has any value for them. And they simply want to get rid of it," he adds. He then specifies the points on which Putin will not make any concessions, and regarding the end of Russia's isolation, he replies: "Not on the part of Europe. In fact, it has been left alone. But the rest of the world had not even begun to do so, including the US.
Recently, American companies have been conquering certain market sectors in Russia, and have done so openly, while European companies have been moving away.
Asked if he considers Europe and NATO out of the game, Bashirov notes: "Meanwhile, you are divided into at least three groups. Our friends or allies, so to speak. Then there are France, Germany and the United Kingdom, who are playing the war. The last group is the silent one, consisting of all the other countries, for which the main issue is the unity of the EU and the main problem of Euro-NATO, the no longer Atlantic Alliance, without the US."
"Italy is oscillating between the second and third groups. When you reach an agreement, maybe you will be able to count on more. But for now, the facts speak for themselves. You are isolated. You, not us."
