In a fresh diplomatic escalation, sources from the Ukrainian delegation at the Istanbul talks have told Sky News that Russia has threatened an “eternal war” if its demands are not met. The dramatic developments come as the latest round of direct negotiations between the two countries, held in Turkey today.
According to Ukrainian sources, the Russian delegation has been unwilling to discuss technical details of a ceasefire, suggesting that decisions are being made at higher command levels, rather than at the negotiating table. Meanwhile, Moscow's demands have been described as "unrealistic" and far more radical than anything previously discussed.
"Russia is behaving like in an old theater where it hopes that with verbal pressure it will break the other side," a diplomatic source from Kiev told Sky News.
