French President Emmanuel Macron said he spoke with his American counterpart Donald Trump while in Tirana for the European Political Community summit, saying that Russia was not showing that it was ready for peace in Ukraine.
"I had a phone call with the American president while I was in Albania. Once again, President Putin refuses to respond to the unconditional ceasefire proposal presented by the Americans and supported by Ukraine and the Europeans," Macron stressed in a post on X.
"By rejecting a ceasefire and dialogue with Ukraine, Russia is showing that it does not want peace and is simply trying to buy time by continuing the war," the French president added.
During their meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Tirana, on the sidelines of the summit, the French president and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer described Russia's stance in the peace negotiations in Istanbul as "unacceptable."
