The clash between Tirana and Athens regarding the case of Fredi Beleri takes on even bigger proportions. Greece has been attacking and exerting pressure for 3 years, even mentioning the rule of law, but the biggest blow to it came from Croatia.
President Zoran Milanovic, while speaking about the clashes between the countries regarding the riots of Croatian fans and their arrest in Greece, drew a parallel with the case of Fredi Beller.
The fans were arrested after the riots in the match against AEK and are being kept in cells and he mentioned the words that Mitotakis mentions in the "Beleri" case.
" Greece is not showing that there is a rule of law. At the same time, the mayor of Athens went to demonstrate in an Albanian village. This happens due to the fact that a few weeks ago, a candidate of Greek ethnicity, in order to win the Municipality of Himara, was caught stealing votes.
And they go to Himara to protest with a group of other people and oppose the decision. I know very well what happens there ," he said.
Milanovic, in his view, is clear that this is pressure. In fact, according to him, this is a direct pressure on the Albanian judicial system and on Albanian politics.
He makes a further parallelism with the arrested fans of Dinamo Zagreb, for whom he has asked to be released.
But, in this case, from the Greek side, this behavior has been labeled as pressure on Greek justice.
Why then, asks Milanovic, his position is called pressure on Greek justice, and the case of Albania and the Beleri case is not the same?
" My answer is that they are to be attacked, because what they are doing is not justice ", he concluded.
Until now, other EU countries have not spoken about this case, even though we are in the midst of a scandal. Greece exerts pressure on another country, even threatening with blocking of funds and EU integration. But it seems that the Croatian president has dared to make the reaction that the politics of Tirana has been afraid of for 30 years.
