European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde has sent a reassuring message to her colleagues that she remains focused on her job, following speculation that she could resign early ahead of the French presidential election in 2027, the Financial Times reported.
Lagarde assured her colleagues that she would inform them in advance if she was leaving, four sources told Reuters. The message was interpreted as a sign that Lagarde has no intention of resigning.
Later in the day, Lagarde sent another message to ECB policymakers, stressing that she remains committed to her role and that any potential decision to leave would be communicated to them directly, not through the media, sources told Reuters.
Although the message did not explicitly close the door to such a development, an ECB spokesman declined to comment.
