A senior Iranian official has confirmed that Tehran has presented a new proposal to the United States, which envisages opening navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and lifting the American blockade on Iran, while the issue of its nuclear program would be postponed to a later stage.
According to Reuters, the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the negotiations, stated that this change aims to create more favorable conditions for reaching an agreement.
He emphasized that, within the framework of this proposal, negotiations on the nuclear issue, considered the most complicated, will take place in the final phase of the diplomatic process.
The proposal was conveyed to the American side through intermediaries and, according to the same source, also includes regional security elements. Specifically, it envisages an end to the current conflict with guarantees that the United States and Israel will not launch attacks on Iran.
In exchange, Iran would allow free circulation in the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic route for global energy trade, while the US would lift economic blockade measures.
However, according to the same sources, the proposal has so far been rejected by US President Donald Trump.
