Protesting against Trump's policies, US senator sets record; delivers

Democratic Senator Cory Booker, who has been protesting the policies of US President Donald Trump, broke the record for the “longest speech in the Senate” with a 25-hour speech he delivered on the floor of the General Assembly. Booker set the agenda with his speech to the US Senate General Assembly, which he began at 7:00 p.m. local time on Monday and ended 25 hours and 4 minutes later.

The longest speech ever delivered in the Senate before Booker was in 1957 by Senator Storm Thurmond, a 24-hour, 18-minute speech opposing the Civil Rights Act. Thurmond died in 2003.

In his speech, Democratic Senator Cory Booker criticized the Trump administration's budget cuts, layoffs in the federal administration, and budget reduction operations under the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

"For as long as I am physically able, I stand with the intent to disrupt the normal business of the United States Senate. I stand tonight because I believe our country is in crisis," Booker said at the beginning of his speech, continuing his speech throughout the night until Tuesday evening.

He spoke on all the major issues on the national agenda, including Social Security, Medicaid and immigration. Booker, who was not prevented from speaking because he did not obstruct any legislative business or violate any rules, did not leave the podium at any time so that the Senate General Assembly would not adjourn and dissolve.

His speech, which lasted 25 hours and 4 minutes, was recorded as "the longest speech in Senate history" while Booker stated that his goal was to draw attention to Trump's "wrong policies."
