Russian President Vladimir Putin announces that Russia has no plans for any NATO country and will not attack Poland, the Baltic states or the Czech Republic, but if the West supplies Ukraine with F-16s, then they will be shot down by Russian forces.
Speaking to Russian air force pilots, Putin said the US-led military alliance had expanded east into Russia since the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, but that Moscow had no plans to attack a NATO state.
"We have no aggressive intentions towards these countries. The idea that we are going to attack another country, Poland, the Baltic states and the Czechs are also freaking out, is complete nonsense. It's just an incentive," Putin said.
Asked about the F-16s that the West has promised to send to Ukraine, Putin said such planes would not change the situation in Ukraine.
"If they supply the F-16, and they are talking about it and apparently training pilots, it will not change the situation on the battlefield," Putin said.
"And we will destroy the aircraft as we destroy tanks, armored vehicles and other equipment today, including multiple missiles. Of course, if they will be used from airfields in third countries, they become legitimate targets for us, wherever they may be," Putin said.
