UN report: Food crisis is affecting all population groups in

A new joint report by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Lebanese Ministry of Agriculture warns that the food crisis in Lebanon has spread to all population groups, not sparing even middle-class Lebanese families.

The report finds that 725,000 Lebanese, or 19 percent of Lebanese households, are expected to face food crises or even more severe levels of acute food insecurity. The situation is particularly dramatic among displaced populations.

362,000 Syrian refugees, or 36 percent, are in food crisis or worse, while 104,000 Palestine refugees, or 45 percent, are in the same alarming situation. The most affected are the approximately 50,000 people newly arrived from Syria since 2024, with 52 percent of them suffering from acute food insecurity.

At these levels, many families are no longer able to meet basic food needs. They are forced to reduce the quantity and quality of food, skip entire meals, or resort to harmful survival strategies, such as taking on new debt and selling essential household assets.

The report emphasizes that the food crisis in Lebanon is no longer just a problem of vulnerable groups, but has become a systemic crisis that affects the entire society and risks deepening the country's social instability.

International organizations warn that without urgent humanitarian intervention and economic support, the situation could deteriorate significantly in the coming months.
