"Israel is at war after Hamas militants launched a devastating attack", said Prime Minister Benjamin Nentayahu, saying that the following days will be difficult.
Hamas, the Palestinian militant group that 'rules' the Gaza Strip, launched a wide-ranging, multi-pronged attack against Israel on Saturday. Thousands of rockets were fired from Gaza as militants infiltrated Israeli communities, massacring hundreds and abducting around 150 hostages.
Israel launched a wave of airstrikes in retaliation and imposed a "total siege" on the Gaza Strip, cutting off electricity, food, water and gas to 2.3 million residents.
On the other hand, Hamas has warned that it will start broadcasting videos of hostage executions if Israel deals with 'innocent civilians'.
Hundreds of innocent civilians, including children, are believed to have been taken hostage in Israel by Hamas.
Israeli authorities have not yet released specific details about the number and identity of the abducted victims, however, a preliminary estimate shared by a senior military official says that 150 people have been captured.
Among them are 5-year-old Raz and 3-year-old Aviv. The parents of the two minors are devastated.
Their father Yoni Asher says he saw his daughters in a video of the terrorists, adding that they were put in a truck, surrounded by men with guns in their hands.
He still has no contact with my wife, Doron Asher Katz, 34 years old. The latter was located at his parents' house in Southern Israel. It is not known if she was kidnapped or killed.
"She told me that the terrorists had gone to her house, the phone was disconnected", says Yoni.
