US President Donald Trump has stated that the downing of a US fighter jet would not affect any negotiations with Iran, while refusing to discuss the ongoing search and rescue mission.

"No, not at all. No, it's a war. We're at war," Trump said in a brief telephone interview with NBC News.

Trump also posted a vague message about oil this afternoon on Truth Social, suggesting the US could "easily" reopen the critical Strait of Hormuz, a change of heart after insisting that other countries are responsible for cleaning up the waterway.

"With a little more time, we could easily open the Strait of Hormuz, take the oil, and make a fortune," Trump wrote Friday morning.
