
New details have emerged from the serious air crash in southern Colombia, where a Hercules military plane crashed with 125 people on board, most of them members of the security forces.
Authorities said rescue teams had managed to pull dozens of survivors from the rubble. Initially, 48 people were reported rescued, but Colombian President Gustavo Petro later confirmed that the number had risen to 77 survivors, with one person dead. The status of 43 others is still unclear.
The C-130 Hercules aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff from the airstrip in Puerto Leguízamo, near the border with Peru, at around 9:50 a.m. on Monday. There were 11 members of the Air Force and 114 soldiers from the National Army on board.
The injured were urgently transported to medical facilities in the area, while ambulance helicopters and specialized aircraft were deployed to send survivors to the capital, Bogota, for more advanced treatment.
Colombian authorities have announced that all protocols have been activated to deal with the situation and support the families of the victims, while a full investigation has been launched to clarify the causes of the accident.
