The war against Iran has not gone as Donald Trump had envisioned. He had hoped for a swift and decisive military campaign, with massive American and Israeli strikes that would quickly destroy Iran’s nuclear, missile, and military capabilities, leading to the regime’s collapse or Tehran’s immediate surrender. Instead, after weeks of conflict, Iran has shown unexpected resilience: it closed the Strait of Hormuz, caused oil prices to skyrocket, hit regional allies, and continued to maintain political control despite heavy military losses, the death of Khamenei, and strikes on infrastructure.
This situation has put Trump in a difficult position: economic pressure within the US, high fuel prices, public concerns and criticism for the lack of a clear plan. Limited military losses and the inability to achieve regime change without a long ground commitment that he wants to avoid. As a result, Trump has been forced to turn to negotiations, announcing temporary pauses, such as the 5-day one he announced today.
On the other hand, Iranian propaganda has begun mocking Trump's failure to achieve the goals he initially announced in the attack. Several Iranian state-affiliated media outlets have released an animated video mocking Trump, called "Lord of the Straits."
The video depicts Iran blocking oil routes, raising prices and ending US obstruction.
