The chairman of the Russian Duma today accused Ukraine of shooting down the Russian plane with 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war, which crashed in the Belgorod region.
The plane was reported to have had 74 people on board, where no one could survive the crash of the plane in the city of Belgorod on the border with Ukraine.
"They killed their soldiers," said Vyacheslav Volodin, addressing Russian parliamentarians.
In addition, retired general Andrei Kartapolov said that the Russian Il-76 jet was shot down by three missiles that the West has provided to Ukraine. Although he did not explain the source of this information, Kartapolov added that investigators will find out whether the missiles were Patriot or IRIS-T.
According to local media, there were nine other people on board, including six crew members.
Ukraine's General Staff, quoted by the Ukrainska Pravda website, said the plane was carrying missiles for Russia's S-300 air defense systems, but did not mention the prisoners of war.
None of the details about the people on board could be independently verified.
The causes that led to the crash of the plane are not yet known.
The accident comes as the Russian attacks in Ukraine continue in an intense manner. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that as a result of an attack in the northeastern city of Kharkiv, 18 people were killed and 130 injured.
