More than 1 ton of cocaine, with a value of about 135 million euros, was seized in the Russian port of Saint Petersburg during the control of coffee bags coming from Belgium.
"More than 1,200 kilograms of drugs, the value of which on the black market exceeds 13 billion rubles (about 135 million euros), was seized in the main port of Saint Petersburg, in the northwestern part of Russia," the announcement states.
The packages of cocaine were placed in coffee bags coming from Antwerp, Belgium. According to the announcement, an investigation into large-scale drug trafficking has been launched, Greek media reports.
This is the second seizure in St. Petersburg in less than a month. In early January, more than a ton of cocaine was seized in a container being transported to Russia from Nicaragua, according to Russian customs authorities.
