Tensions rise as Iranian state TV hints at nuclear weapons

Tensions between Iran and Israel have entered a critical phase, as mutual threats between political leaders are shaping an increasingly open conflict. Following harsh statements by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has publicly demanded the “head” of Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and signals from US President Donald Trump that they know Khamenei’s whereabouts but have not yet decided to eliminate him, the Iranian leader himself has responded with a strong warning.

"In the name of the Prophet, the battle begins now," Khamenei wrote on the X platform, adding in another post in English that "the Zionist regime must be given a strong response. We will not show mercy to the Zionists."

In this tense climate, Iranian state television IRIB published a material that openly alludes to the possession of nuclear weapons, with the warning: “if Iran’s existence is threatened, it has the means to bring about the end of Tel Aviv and Haifa.” This is one of the strongest statements to date implying the possibility of using a nuclear arsenal, although Iran officially denies possessing such weapons.

Meanwhile, on the sixth day of the military escalation between Israel and Iran, US media are reporting an important logistical development: more than 30 US military fuel tankers have been sent to the Middle East, with the aim of potentially supporting Israeli air operations. These logistical units could provide air-to-air supplies for Israeli aircraft if the US joins the conflict.

CNN quotes US officials as saying that President Trump is moving away from diplomatic options and is increasingly moving towards the possibility of direct military intervention against Iran, including strikes on its nuclear facilities.

Israel recently confirmed that it had struck a uranium enrichment center in Iran, while attacks from the Iranian side have subsided somewhat, however, airstrike alarms have again been heard in various cities.

The situation remains extremely tense and could escalate into a wider regional war if American involvement materializes.
