Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has hit back at critics of the counteroffensive, which is said to be moving slowly. He stated that Kiev troops are "moving forward" in their counterattack against Russian forces.
" Ukrainian forces are moving forward. Regardless of everything, and regardless of what anyone says, we are advancing and that is the most important thing. We are moving ," he wrote on Telegram.
Ukraine's counteroffensive, which is nearing its three-month mark, has retaken more than a dozen villages but no major settlements.
This week, unnamed US officials expressed frustration at the slow progress of the operation and even added that they got it wrong strategically with Ukraine
Momentum on the Ukrainian battlefield has increased slightly in part of the southeastern Zaporizhzhia front, where Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar said on Friday that Kiev troops had broken through the first line of Russian defense.
The White House said there had been "significant success" by Ukraine in the area, although Ms Maliar warned that Kiev troops had reached even more fortified positions on the other side after the breakthrough.
