United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed great concern about military reinforcements in the Persian Gulf, warning of the risk of further escalating tensions in the region.
According to UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric, Guterres calls on all actors to show "maximum restraint" and refrain from any actions that could escalate or further destabilize the situation in the wider region.
Speaking to reporters at UN headquarters in New York, Dujarric said the Secretary-General remains convinced that all concerns regarding Iran can best be addressed through dialogue, diplomacy and negotiations.
Guterres also welcomed all efforts aimed at regional de-escalation and called on the parties involved to take concrete steps to reduce tensions and strengthen trust between regional actors.
