United States President Donald Trump today ruled out any possibility of firing Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, whose resignation has been demanded by the opposition.
Trump said Noem would remain in office, saying she had done "a very good job."
"No," the Republican president replied flatly, when asked by a reporter if Noem would leave her post.
Trump also described as "very sad" the death of a second American protester, who was shot dead by federal agents on Saturday in Minneapolis.
Although he did not use the term "murderer," which his adviser Stephen Miller had used to describe 37-year-old Alex Preti, who was shot and killed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, Trump stressed that the victim should not have been carrying a gun during a protest.
Asked if he considered Alex Preti a "murderer," the American president responded negatively, but added that he "should not have shown up with a gun" at a protest rally, describing the event as "a very unfortunate incident."
In an attempt to defend the actions of federal agents, some officials have emphasized that Preti was armed, an argument that has been strongly rejected by the opposition and organizations that defend the right to bear arms.
