On the way to Alaska: Europe roars, Zelensky smells treason!

In the disgusting reality that everyone is turning a blind eye to, the outcome of this war will be decided by its real instigators: the United States and Russia.

There is a misunderstanding somewhere, given that recently, everyone has been very pleased with Ukraine. Donald Trump was pleased with the meeting between his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and Vladimir Putin, who was also pleased. Trump says he is pleased with his relationship with Zelensky (even if he does not agree with his actions - who knows what that means...), and Zelensky, for his part, is very grateful. And European leaders and Zelensky himself said they were very pleased with today's phone call with Trump. As Mark Rutte, NATO Secretary General, commented: " Excellent phone call with Trump, Zelensky and European leaders ahead of the US President's meeting with Putin in Alaska. We are united in our commitment to ending this terrible war against Ukraine and to achieving a just and lasting peace. I appreciate Donald Trump's leadership and close coordination with allies."

And while they indulge each other, especially on the phone, they all continue to say and demand such different things that, inevitably, war continues and peace remains distant. Yesterday, no European leader failed to make joint statements. Britain’s Keir Starmer and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz reiterated that “international borders should not be changed by force.” It’s a fundamental principle of international coexistence; who could disagree with them, except Benjamin Netanyahu? But the fact remains that the borders between Russia and Ukraine have already been changed by force, and frankly, it’s hard to see anyone still thinking that Crimea, for example, could ever be returned to Ukraine.

Of course, Zelensky is the one who is most right, rejecting the idea that the territorial integrity of Ukraine can be negotiated between others, and even more so in the absence of the Ukrainian authorities. Let's think about it for a moment: they, the Ukrainians, are dying, and the Americans and Russians decide. It's a terrible feeling. But throughout this crisis, even now, even when in one way or another we are talking about how to end the war, the complete lack of reality is striking. The Europeans are trying to dictate to Trump, who, however, did not care at all about them when he organized the summit with Putin. Moreover, they are swearing eternal loyalty to the Ukrainian cause at the very moment when they are barely managing to collect a few pennies for the program that is supposed to buy American weapons to help Kiev's troops.

No one, therefore, seems to want to take into account what is happening on the ground. In the Donbas, the Russians are advancing more and more and, according to AFP, they have not conquered so much land in such a short time in a year and a half. In July, they launched 6,200 kamikaze drones against Ukraine, an unprecedented number during the entire war, a testament to the health of the Russian arms industry, which in September 2022 von der Leyen described as "shattered". The Russian armed forces have no problems with recruitment, while the Ukrainian ones do, and in large numbers. However, when Zelensky said (a few hours ago) that the Russian advance is a bluff, everyone in Europe believed him, except for the mayor of Kiev, Vitaly Klitchko, who declared on German television: " We are losing territory every day and people are tired of this war ". In your opinion, under these conditions, how likely is the Ukrainian (and understandable) and European demand that Russia agree to a ceasefire before negotiations are accepted?

In the hideous reality that everyone is turning a blind eye to, the outcome of this war will be decided by its real instigators: the United States and Russia. If things go as many predict, they will have faced a flood of death and destruction that necessitates a “security balance” in Europe that could have been resolved peacefully fifteen years ago. Ukraine is a victim, as are Syria and Lebanon in other ways and in another region. And Europe, which today collects a few crumbs from Trump’s table but is so content with its relationship with him, is the betrayed and battered girlfriend of the American boy. /Adapted from “Pamphlet” by “InsideOver”
