US Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed cautious optimism that Washington could have "news," perhaps even within the day, regarding a draft agreement in negotiations to end the war with Iran.
"We expected to have news last night, maybe today (Monday), but I'm not going to prejudge anything," said the US Secretary of State, who is on an official visit to New Delhi, referring to the possibility of concluding an agreement to end the war that began with the US-Israeli bombing of Iran on February 28.
He stressed that Israel will "always have the right to defend itself," regardless of any agreement that may be reached between Washington and Tehran, repeating the position expressed yesterday, Sunday, by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
"Israel always has the right to defend itself. Every country in the world has that right. And so, if Hezbollah is preparing to launch or is launching missiles against it, Israel has the right to retaliate," the US Secretary of State argued.
The Israeli Prime Minister assured yesterday that US President Donald Trump reaffirmed, during the phone conversation, Israel's "right" to carry out military operations in Lebanon, where the Israeli army is targeting Hezbollah.
