Bertolt Brecht's poem published by Lea Ypi is seen as the most significant political message of the day, at a time when anti-government protests are entering their fourth week.

In politics, there are times when a statement makes noise for hours and is forgotten. There are other times when a few lines are enough to say more than an entire speech.

This seems to have happened with Lea Ypi's latest post.

The Albanian professor at the London School of Economics, one of the most well-known intellectuals of the European left and a name that has been promoted for years by Edi Rama himself in international circles, published Bertolt Brecht's famous poem, "In Glory to the Revolutionary," on social networks.

The time of publication did not go unnoticed.

On the same day that the anti-government protest held its 23rd rally and demands for political change were articulated in front of the Prime Minister's Office, Ypi chose to publish a text that speaks of the man who does not remain silent in the face of injustice, who challenges power and who "calls things by their true name."

" When exploitation increases, many people are discouraged, but their courage increases ," Brecht writes in the poem distributed by Ypi.

The poem continues: “ Wherever there is silence, he will speak. Wherever there is oppression and talk of fate, he will call things by their true names .”

These are verses that, read in isolation, may have universal meaning. But published at the height of the protests that are shaking up Albanian public debate, they have inevitably taken on a political charge.

It is not the first time that Lea Ypi has sided with government critics.

A few weeks ago, in a long article in the prestigious British newspaper “The Guardian”, she openly defended the civic protests against the development model that, according to her, Albania is following. In that analysis, Ypi criticized the oligarchic capture of the state, the dependence on large investments linked to narrow economic interests, and the lack of real political alternatives.

She even went further, describing the protest movement as the most inspiring phenomenon of civic activism she had seen in Albania since the fall of communism.

They are not giving up the state, but they are insisting that it belongs to them ,” Ypi wrote in the Guardian.

It was a positioning that stood out not only for its content, but also for the fact that it came from a figure who until yesterday was considered part of the intellectual elite closest to the government.

For years, Edi Rama has promoted Lea Ypi on the international stage. Her books have been donated to world leaders by the Albanian Prime Minister himself. Her name is often mentioned as one of the most prestigious figures of the Albanian left in the international arena.

Not coincidentally, in political and media circles, Lea Ypi has often been discussed as one of the figures who could one day play a role in leading the Socialist Party after the Rama era.

Precisely for this reason, her latest messages have taken on special weight.

When a political opponent criticizes the government, it is considered normal. When a figure identified with the intellectual tradition of the left raises questions about the direction the country is taking, the effect is quite different.

And Brecht's poem published by Ypi seems to contain precisely this message.

There are no names in her verses. There are no personal attacks. There are no political slogans.

But there is a clear idea: that the role of the intellectual is not to repeat what power says, but to speak when others are silent.

Ultimately, this is why Lea Ypi's post is getting so many comments.

Not because she mentioned Edi Rama.

But because there was no need to mention it.

In an Albania engulfed in debates about protests, power, corruption, and the future of the country, Brecht's verses resonated for many as a message of solidarity with those in the square today.

And perhaps that's why a few lines of poetry are echoing more than dozens of political statements. /Pamphlet

Durim. Një ambasador amerikan "i bërë sipas dëshirës" është duke ardhur. Ai do të jetë 4 herë më i fortë se Yuri Kim dhe Donald Lu! Do të jetë një çekiç i fortë! Rama do ta pëlqejë shumë!
