Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić declared that China is one of Serbia's most necessary partners, emphasizing that Belgrade has chosen the "path of openness" and that the partnership with China brings concrete benefits to citizens.
In an editorial for the Chinese newspaper South China Morning Post, Vučić stated that Europe should approach China with more trust and willingness to cooperate, and not with fear and suspicion, RTS reports.
"As I return to China, I do so with an abiding sense of respect for the country that has become one of Serbia's most indispensable partners and one of the main forces of our century," said Vučić, who is on an official visit to China.
He assessed that discussions about China in Europe are often burdened with doubts and strategic concerns.
"I understand that every major political community must take care of its future, but I believe that Europe should approach China not with fear and suspicion, but with self-confidence and a serious and open willingness for cooperation ," Vučić emphasized in the author's text.
According to him, Serbia has chosen the path of openness and Belgrade's experience shows that partnership with China brings concrete benefits to ordinary people, workers and families.
"Serbia, in many respects, has become a leader in Europe when it comes to a partnership model that is both practical and beneficial for both sides. Long before the connection became a global political slogan, we understood the importance of building bridges between East and West," said the President of Serbia.
Vučić emphasized that cooperation through the mechanism with the countries of Central and Eastern Europe has grown over time into a broad and permanent partnership, the results of which are visible today in infrastructure, energy and technology.
He emphasized that the "heart of that relationship" is represented by the ironworker in Smederevo.
"When (Chinese) President Xi Jinping visited Serbia in 2016, we visited a factory that was on the verge of collapse. At that moment, thousands of families feared for their future and the fate of the entire city was uncertain. Then came Chinese investment and, equally important, Chinese trust," Vučić wrote.
According to him, the revitalization of the scrapyards carried out by the company "HBIS Group" was much more than an economic project.
"It was proof that together we can restore dignity where others saw only decay. Today, 5,000 people are directly employed at the ironworks, while thousands more depend on its success. What was once a symbol of industrial insecurity has become proof of renewal," Vučić said.
