Russia threatens US: If you resume nuclear testing, we will act!
Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump

Russia has sent a clear warning to Washington, saying it will “act accordingly” if the US resumes nuclear testing. The statement was made on Thursday by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, following recent comments by US officials on the review of testing policy.

Peskov was reacting to a statement by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who said the new testing directive “includes delivery systems,” following President Donald Trump’s order on October 29 that the Pentagon begin “immediately” preparations to resume nuclear testing. Rubio, however, did not openly confirm whether full-scale tests were being considered.

“If this means that the US is withdrawing from the test ban, then we have confirmation of their intentions,” Peskov said, recalling that until now a complete moratorium had been in effect. “As our president said, Russia will react according to the situation.”

He stressed that President Vladimir Putin's order dated November 5 was not aimed at immediately preparing tests, but at gathering information and assessing the "advisability" of such a step, depending on US actions.

Meanwhile, Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoygu said in an interview with RIA Novosti that Russian institutions have begun modeling possible responses to new scenarios related to arms control.

He warned that Moscow cannot "stand idly by" in the face of the weakening of international arms control systems, demanding clearer explanations from Washington on its nuclear testing plans.

"Russia is prepared for any developments , but will not allow under any circumstances a new arms race to be provoked, regardless of the wishes of our adversaries," Shoygu said.

He also accused several European states of "escalating declarations and war plans," adding that Moscow is closely monitoring EU and NATO decisions and adapting its military strategy as needed.
