NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg's visit to the Balkans has alarmed Moscow. His visit was a clear message to Moscow that it cannot interfere in the region and it seems that Putin has received this message very clearly.
This is after the spokeswoman of the Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, immediately went on the attack. She said his visit was an inciting and destructive move, as according to her, the main aim was to sow instability in the region.
" Stoltenberg's trip to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia was clearly malicious. He sought to interfere in the internal affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina and accelerate the country's move towards the North Atlantic [NATO] institutions. He insisted that Belgrade also increase cooperation with NATO, despite Serbia's neutral status, blaming Russia for everything, accusing us of spreading disinformation in the Balkans ," Zakharova said.
She further said that Stoltenberg's tour of the Balkans was further proof of "the destructive policy of the North Atlantic bloc to draw the countries of the region into the alliance".
" We believe that NATO must end its policy of destabilizing the Balkans, imposing its own rules on the region and establishing new dividing lines there. As history shows, the alliance's influence in the Balkans always leads to grief, loss of life, destruction and war crimes ," she said.
But as Moscow continues the pressure, the US, for its part, continues to work to distance Serbia from Russia. The US ambassador in Belgrade, Christopher Hill, said that it is unacceptable for Serbia to continue good relations with Russia, as Moscow has caused chaos halfway around the world.
" Serbia is a country that prided itself on very good relations with countries around the world, including Russia. It is completely unsustainable to continue good relations with Russia. Russia created chaos in half the world, caused huge problems for everyone ," Hill said.
During a statement at the Belgrade Economic Forum, Hill noted the ongoing efforts of the European Union to find a solution through dialogue and emphasized the importance of recognition by the parties of the situation of the Serbs in northern Kosovo. / Pamphlet
