The scientific instruments of the Russian spacecraft "Luna-25" carried out the first measurements today and sent data related to the flight to the Moon, which scientists have begun to process, the press service of the Russian space agency Roscosmos announced.
The announcement states that the first measurements of scientific equipment developed by the Institute for Space Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences were carried out in space flight conditions. The "Luna-25" spacecraft will enter an orbit about 100 kilometers high for five days.
Russia launched its first spacecraft in 47 years on August 11, aiming to be the first country to land on the moon's south pole, which may have significant ice deposits.
The Soyuz 2.1v rocket carrying the Luna-25 spacecraft lifted off from the Vostochny Cosmodrome on August 11 and will land on the Moon by August 21, the Russian space agency Roscosmos announced.
This Russian lunar mission is the first since 1976. Roscosmos said Luna-25, which weighs 1.8 tons, will be on the moon for at least a year and collect samples.
