The White House has announced that Moscow is using ballistic missiles obtained from North Korea to attack Ukraine.
Washington also stated that the Kremlin is in talks with Iran on the provision of short-range ballistic missiles, but according to US intelligence services, such a thing has not yet materialized and the missiles have not arrived in Russia.
US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said Russia fired a North Korean ballistic missile into Ukraine on December 30.
"Because of our sanctions and export controls, Russia has become increasingly isolated on the world stage and they have been forced to seek military equipment from countries with which they share the same philosophy. As we have publicly warned, one of those countries is North Korea. Pyongyang's support for Moscow is a significant and troubling escalation ," Kirby told reporters at the White House.
Kirby said North Korea's missile range was 900 km and that in exchange for weapons, Russia was expected to supply fighter jets, surface-to-air missiles, armored vehicles, ballistic missile production equipment and other advanced technology.
"This would have security implications for the Korean peninsula and the Indo-Pacific region ," he said.
