
The Israeli army has announced that Hamas is still holding 136 people hostage in the Gaza Strip.
Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari's statement after recent statistics released by Israeli officials and media showed that there are 129 hostages being held in the Gaza Strip, suggesting conflicting reports on the actual number of hostages.
"136 Israelis are still being held in the Gaza Strip, including three civilians who were initially reported missing but later turned out to be among the hostages held in Gaza ," Hagari said.
Hagar then added that the army is trying to return the hostages home as soon as possible.
"We continue to work with all intelligent and operational efforts to create the conditions for their return ," he added.
Earlier, statements by Israeli officials and the latest statistics published in the media said that there were 129 Israeli prisoners in the Gaza Strip.
