US sends warships to the Caribbean, Nicaragua raises alarm: Trump is attempting

The US government has deployed several warships to the Caribbean, sparking strong reactions and accusations from Latin American countries. Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega has even accused Donald Trump of plotting a coup, while Venezuela accuses him of a massive threat. Just yesterday, Tuesday, US forces apparently destroyed a “drug boat” coming from Venezuela.

The aim of the naval operation is to "intimidate Latin American governments" and "try to overthrow governments," Nicaraguan President Ortega said. He further described the Trump administration's declared war on drug-related crime as a "farce."

Almost two weeks ago, Donald Trump sent three warships to the coast of Venezuela, ostensibly to crack down on drug cartels. The US president later announced that US forces had shot down a drug ship coming from Venezuela, killing eleven "narco-terrorists from the Tren de Aragua".

Trump claimed on the “Truth Social” network that the gang in question was operating “under the control” of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. Ortega disputed this account: “How do they prove that these were drug traffickers and that they were bringing drugs into the United States?”

The situation in the Caribbean threatens to escalate further. According to media reports, Trump plans to send 4,000 additional marines to the region. Venezuelan President Maduro warned of an unprecedented threat: "The US has sent eight warships with 1,200 missiles and a submarine" to target his country. He described the situation as "the biggest threat in 100 years."

In response, Maduro announced that he would mobilize more than four million militants. On Monday, he said Venezuela had a total of "8.2 million" militants and reservists, although experts dispute that figure.

The United States does not recognize Maduro as the legitimate president of Venezuela and has repeatedly tried to force his resignation in the past.
