The US Treasury Department imposed sanctions on an individual and a company in Bosnia and Herzegovina for supporting a corrupt patronage network linked to Serbian President Milorad Dodik and his son in their efforts to avoid US sanctions.
According to a Treasury Department statement, the sanctioned individual is Vladimir Perisic, director of the Prointer company, while the company was identified as Elpring, part of a network with direct ties to Igor Dodik, the son of the pro-Russian President of Republika Srpska Dodik. both individuals declared non-grata by the United States government.
"President of the Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik, his associates and their assistants are continuing to use their privileged position to weaken the public's trust in the regional peace agreements and the institutions that brought stability and security to Bosnia-Herzegovina ," said the deputy acting secretary of the Treasury Department for terrorism and financial intelligence, Bradley T. Smith. "The United States remains committed to exposing the efforts of Mr. Dodik and his family to maintain their corrupt patronage networks."
According to the Treasury Department, the suspect Perisic created a bribery scheme that operated under the orders of Igor Dodik. Meanwhile, the Elpring company was founded to replace another company that faced US sanctions, to evade them. The owner of this company together with Igor Dodik had control over it.
Dodik, who has long sought the separation of the Serbian entity from Bosnia, is considered a destabilizing actor in the region.
Wednesday's decision expands sanctions imposed in June on individuals and a network of companies linked to Mr. Dodik. / VOA
