Argument with hotel staff in Brussels, Rubio's bodyguard arrested; released

An incident occurred during the visit of US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, to Brussels, where his security chief was arrested by local police.

He was held for several hours under escort and then released after the intervention of the American ambassador.

It all started after an argument that Rubio's security chief had with hotel staff. He argued with the employees, asking them not to close the hotel bar at night. The hotel staff called the police, and the argument continued between them, until the security forces put handcuffs on him.

The person arrested was actually a team leader for the US Diplomatic Security Service (DSS), who was part of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio's delegation to Brussels last week. Donald Trump's foreign policy chief was in the European and Belgian capitals for the NATO ministerial meeting and was staying at the Hotel Amigo in Brussels, known to diplomats and international officials where Giorgia Meloni and European prime ministers often spend the nights when European Councils are held.

As Brussels Today reports, on Monday, March 31, the DSS agent responsible for preparing Rubio's visit to the Atlantic Alliance meeting had an argument with the hotel bar manager. The officer allegedly demanded that the bar, which had just closed, be reopened for him. When the night manager asked him to return to his room, the officer showed signs of aggression, which led to an escalation of the situation.

Brussels police were quickly called in to intervene. The head of the Diplomatic Security Service team, visibly out of control, initially resisted and then clashed with the police. For this he was arrested. However, he was released in the afternoon after the US embassy intervened and brought the situation under control.

The Diplomatic Security Service, where the member was a senior officer, is "aware of the incident" and "the allegations are being investigated," a State Department spokesperson said in a statement to The Independent.
