China has hit back at Trump's additional tariffs. China's Finance Ministry said it will impose an additional 84% tariff on all goods imported from the US, up from the 34% it had previously warned, in response to the tariffs imposed by the US.
Earlier, Beijing responded with harsh language against President Trump's actions regarding bilateral trade relations, calling his moves "threatening and coercive" and calling them a mistake. According to the ministry, these new tariffs will take effect at noon on April 10.
"If the US really wants to resolve the problem through dialogue and negotiations, it should demonstrate an attitude of equality, respect and mutual benefit," Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said at a press conference.
Lin added that "if the US insists on waging a tariff and trade war, China will definitely fight to the end."
China has been hit with a 104 percent tariff by the Trump administration, by far the highest rate among the dozens of countries targeted in the US president's "liberation day" announcement.
