Mount Etna erupts in Sicily

Skiers in Sicily have captured impressive moments from the eruption of the Etna volcano, which occurred on December 27, spewing large amounts of ash and smoke into the atmosphere.

Following the volcanic activity, scientists at the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology have issued a red warning for aircraft, the highest level of alert for aviation.

However, local authorities announced that flights will continue to operate normally at the nearby airport, as long as the ashfall does not intensify.

Etna is considered the largest and highest volcano in Europe and one of the most active in the world. Due to its frequent activity, eruptions are recorded several times a year, making it one of the most monitored volcanoes globally.
