Hours before his critical meeting with US President Donald Trump in Florida, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky directly accused his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin of "not wanting peace" after the longest airstrike of the year on the Ukrainian capital, at a time when Kiev is trying to strengthen its diplomatic position ahead of a possible peace deal.
The Russian airstrike on Kiev and the surrounding area lasted almost 10 hours, leaving at least two dead and 44 wounded, including two children, according to local authorities. The Ukrainian air force said Russia launched a total of 519 drones and 40 missiles overnight.
The attacks mainly hit energy and civil infrastructure, causing serious problems with electricity and heating supplies. According to Minister Oleksii Kuleba, more than 40% of housing in the capital was left without heating, while air raid sirens sounded throughout the day.
Fires broke out in car workshops and apartment buildings, while elderly people were forced to evacuate from a care center, according to Kiev's emergency services.
