A powerful snowstorm has wreaked havoc in New York City and the northeastern region of the United States, significantly disrupting air traffic and public transportation during one of the busiest weekends of the year.
Authorities have declared a state of emergency in the states of New York and New Jersey, as bad weather has created major difficulties for travelers traveling for the Christmas holidays.
According to flight tracking service, at least 9,000 flights have been canceled or delayed since Friday evening. The most problematic situation was recorded at major airports in the area, including John F. Kennedy International, Newark Liberty International and LaGuardia.
These airports have posted snow warnings on social media, notifying passengers that severe weather conditions could cause further flight delays and cancellations in the coming hours.
