US President Donald Trump has resumed his verbal attacks on London Mayor Sadiq Khan, calling him "an evil person" and saying he has done "a terrible job" in running the British capital.
The statement was made during Trump's meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Turnberry, where, unlike his warm attitude towards Starmer, Trump did not spare criticism of Khan, with whom he has had constant clashes since his first presidential term.
Despite this, a spokesman for Sadiq Khan responded with irony, saying that the mayor was "delighted" by Trump's interest in visiting London.
" He will see how our diversity makes us stronger, not weaker; richer, not poorer. Perhaps these are the reasons why record numbers of Americans have applied for British citizenship during his presidency ," the spokesman said, turning the response into a political jab at Trump's rhetoric.
This is the latest clash between Trump and Khan, two politicians who have been in open controversy for years, particularly on issues such as immigration, diversity and the management of large cities.
