President Donald Trump, during his speech to the Peace Council, also spoke about the state of discussions with Iran. Trump said that Iran is a flashpoint and added that special envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner have good relations with Tehran's aides.
He stressed that these years have proven that it is not easy to reach an agreement with Iran, but added that efforts are being made to reach a meaningful agreement.
"Iran is a hot spot right now. They're meeting and having a good relationship with Iranian representatives and, you know, good talks are going on. It's been proven over the years that it's not easy to make a meaningful deal with Iran. We have to make a meaningful deal, otherwise bad things happen. We have a little bit of work to do with Iran. We can't have peace in the Middle East if Iran has nuclear weapons. The United States and our partners have sent a huge amount of humanitarian aid," Trump said.
The US military is currently building up forces and equipment in the Persian Gulf at unprecedented levels, as media outlets in Israel and elsewhere insist that an attack on Iran is much closer than Trump administration officials are publicly admitting.
