The proceedings of the first meeting of the Peace Board, an initiative created by US President Donald Trump, began today at the Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace in the US capital. President Trump arrived at the meeting room and personally greeted the leaders present.
The ceremony began with a family photo of the leaders, with Trump at the center, flanked by Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The agenda includes discussions on the reconstruction of Gaza, the stabilization force and further peace plans.
The meeting includes leaders from more than 20 countries including Argentina, Azerbaijan and others, but has drawn criticism from some European countries and allies, who see it as a structure that could undermine the role of the UN or have a "pay-to-play" character. Trump has called it "the most important international organization in history."
The meeting follows the official establishment of the Peace Board in Davos on 22 January 2026, where Albania and Kosovo became part of the initiative. The Board primarily aims to resolve the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with pledges of billions of dollars for reconstruction, but has expanded its ambitions towards promoting global peace in conflict zones. Prime Minister Rama, accompanied by Minister Ervin Demon, attended to represent Albania as a founding member.
Albania has clarified that it will not contribute financially as required for permanent membership with 1 billion dollars, but with “international dignity and reputation”. President Osmani, as the only female representative among the founders, emphasized that Kosovo stands by the US to advance peace, recalling the historic American support for Kosovo’s independence.
