Ukraine is ready to launch its long-awaited counterattack in the war against Russia, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in an exclusive interview for "The Wall Street Journal".
"I think that from today we are ready to do it. We would like to have some additional things, but we cannot wait for months ," Zelensky said.
The president said he believes the counterattack will be successful, but is not sure how long it will take.
" Everyone knows very well that any counterattack in the world without control in the sky is very dangerous. Imagine what a soldier feels, knowing that he does not have a "roof" and he cannot understand how neighboring countries have it, "said Zelensky, recalling his constant campaign for allies to supply Ukraine with F-16 fighter jets.
According to the WSJ, Zelensky acknowledged Russia's superiority in the skies, adding that the lack of protection against Russian air power means that large numbers of soldiers will die during counteroffensives.
" If everyone knows that we need protection for our skies, then what's the problem with providing modern aircraft? What is the issue? he concluded.
