Former President Donald Trump returned to his Mar-a-Lago club around 6 a.m. on Election Day after finishing a late rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan — but the early morning arrival hardly slowed the ex- the president to leave his aides alone all day.
Trump has been on the phone regularly, calling Republican allies and elected officials in key states to check in.
Trump will spend tonight at his Mar-a-Lago club watching the results, where several hundred guests have been invited to attend. But as CNN previously noted, Trump will have a smaller circle behind him this time. That guest list includes his key allies, heavyweight donors and surrogates like Dana White, Elon Musk and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Meanwhile, thousands more will be waiting at the nearby convention center, where Trump is expected to speak later in the evening. Trump told reporters he has yet to write a speech on the occasion.
