Concerns are intensifying if technology is "taking over" our lives and stealing our personal data, through mobile phones that are present in every home.

“Artificial intelligence programs, machines, websites and apps are collecting data about our activity, location, even voice or video messages from our home, often without our conscious consent. This information is used for advertising or other purposes that you cannot imagine", the experts emphasize.

Professor David Choffnes from Northeastern University has studied how apps and so-called "voice assistants" collect data, and he argues that the chances of seeing an "extremely accurate ad" due to our device's microphone are minimal.

Companies already have enough data for us. From our location, the time we spend in certain places, to the information they buy from other sources, such as the ages of our children or our purchase history, they create a complete profile of you.

"Voice assistants" such as Siri, Alexa and Google Assistant - are fueling mistrust about companies' transparency around personal data.

Some companies have admitted to using a small portion of the recordings to improve their technology. Although these recordings are usually short, the idea that someone can listen to parts of our conversations certainly remains unsettling.
