"The situation is very serious," King Harald speaks about
The Norwegian monarch

The Norwegian monarch spoke about the worsening health of Princess Mette-Marit, the hospitalization of Queen Sonja and the controversy surrounding the name of Jeffrey Epstein...

In one of the most difficult periods for the Norwegian royal family, King Harald appeared reassuring about the future of the monarchy in the country. Speaking to reporters, the 89-year-old monarch declared that there is "nothing to worry about" regarding the succession to the throne, referring to his son, Crown Prince Haakon, as well as his 22-year-old granddaughter, Princess Ingrid Alexandra, who is currently studying in Australia.

The king's statement comes at a time of great public concern, after he confirmed that the health of his daughter-in-law, Princess Mette-Marit, has deteriorated significantly. Mette-Marit was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis in 2018 and now requires daily oxygen support. She was most recently seen with an oxygen tube in her nose during Norway's National Day celebrations.

"The doctors had warned us that this would happen, but we thought it would be delayed. Unfortunately, now the situation is very serious," declared King Harald.

He also spoke about the condition of his wife, Queen Sonja, who was urgently hospitalized on May 27 for heart problems. According to the king, she received the necessary treatment yesterday and has returned home in an improved physical and moral condition.

In addition to health issues, King Harald was also questioned about the monarchy's declining popularity, which once enjoyed support of up to 90%. The public debate intensified after Mette-Marit's name was mentioned in documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, as well as after an interview she gave about her former relationship with him.

The king distanced himself from the issue, emphasizing that he had been informed through the media, but at the same time defended the princess.

"She has done nothing illegal. Unlike some other people in Norway, she ended this contact very early and that should be given to her," he said.

Asked humorously whether the Norwegian monarchy could one day be abolished, King Harald replied curtly: "If that happens, I probably won't be here anymore."
