Ten people, including doctors and pharmacists, are accused of a scheme that allegedly operated for six years using forged prescriptions.

Ten people, including doctors, pharmacists and pharmacy owners, have been charged in Greece over an alleged prescription fraud scheme that caused the state healthcare fund (EOPYY) a loss of around 405,000 euros.

According to Greek police, the alleged leader of the group was arrested on Thursday in the Athens region. He is reported to have been a former parliamentary candidate, while the other nine suspects include a psychiatrist, a family doctor at a state hospital and pharmacy managers.

The investigation was launched after a complaint from EOPYY. Authorities suspect that from March 2020 to April 2026, the group used forged documents and illegally obtained data to issue prescriptions in the name of beneficiaries who had not activated the electronic prescription service.

According to the police, the suspects forged patients' signatures, executed prescriptions to obtain reimbursements from EOPYY, and then sold the drugs illegally. Investigations have identified around 5,500 forged prescriptions, which allegedly caused the state fund a damage of approximately 405 thousand euros.
