Péter Magyar, the chairman of the Tisza Party, held a press conference half an hour after the polls closed, in the Tisza Party results reception hall on Batthyány Square. In his speech, he spoke about the record-high voter turnout, the importance of democracy and the thousands of reported electoral abuses.
He stressed that today has become a celebration of democracy, especially in light of the fact that the referendum on the European Union was held exactly 23 years ago. He added that people could feel the importance of voting, so he especially thanked everyone for participating, regardless of who they voted for.
Magyar, who is seeking to replace Viktor Orbán as prime minister, called today a historic day at a press conference. He thanked all voters who participated in the polls in record numbers and who understood the importance of the elections.
Magyar said he was "optimistic but cautious" after some opinion polls showed he would win. He added that these were the regime's final hours and that the system would change once and for all.
" The regime is living its last hours, we are on the verge of a system change. Let's get through this together! Let's all stay calm and in good spirits: time is on our side! God bless Hungary! ", he said, among other things.
