Stoltenberg rejects rumors that Trump's re-election would break up NATO!

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has dismissed rumors that a re-election of former US President Donald Trump would weaken the defense alliance as it works to secure strong support for Ukraine.

Stoltenberg said he did not think a second Trump presidency would jeopardize US NATO membership.

"I believe that the United States will continue to be a staunch NATO ally, regardless of the outcome of the American elections, because it is in the interest of the United States. I worked with him for four years and I listened carefully, because the main criticism was about NATO allies spending too little for NATO. So the message from the United States that the European allies had to step up has been understood and they are really moving in the right direction ," Stoltenberg told CNN.

We recall that former President Trump has been a harsh critic of NATO and has repeatedly threatened to withdraw from the alliance, complaining that the United States was paying more than its fair share.

Stoltenberg, who has pushed member states to increase defense spending, said more of the allies are increasing their military contributions, adding that dismantling it is extremely difficult.

Despite this, Trump has continued to criticize the alliance, saying during his campaign this weekend that he did not believe NATO countries would support the United States if attacked. The NATO treaty contains a provision guaranteeing the mutual defense of member states if they are attacked.

On the war in Ukraine, Trump has called for de-escalation and complained about the billions spent so far. US Senate talks on a border security deal that some have made a condition for additional aid to Ukraine have met growing opposition among Trump-aligned Republicans.
