Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has made a crucial official visit to Canada at a pivotal moment for the fate of the war and international diplomacy. The visit comes as Kiev seeks to secure sustained support from Western allies ahead of expected talks with former US President Donald Trump in Florida that could lay the groundwork for a peace deal or a reinforcement of the front line.

In Canada, Zelensky was received by Prime Minister Mark Carney and other senior state officials, with whom he discussed the deteriorating situation in Ukraine following the latest Russian offensive and the need for a coordinated approach among Western allies to deter Moscow's aggression. The focus was on security guarantees for Ukraine, mechanisms for long-term peace, and support for the country's reconstruction after nearly four years of bloody war.

One of the highlights of the visit was the announcement of a new $2.5 billion economic aid package from the Canadian government. The funds will help Kiev cover its budget deficit, finance the reconstruction of civilian infrastructure, and strengthen the country's military and defense capabilities. The aid comes at a time when Russia has dramatically increased airstrikes against Ukrainian civilian targets and the energy system, causing massive damage and putting the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of citizens at risk as the harsh winter approaches.

Zelensky considered the visit an important step in consolidating the Western diplomatic front in support of the Ukrainian cause. The meeting with Canadian leaders was also intended to send a clear message about Ukraine's determination not to bow to Russian aggression and to continue its demands for military, financial and political assistance.

Part of the visit's agenda was also close coordination between Kiev and EU allies ahead of the meeting with Trump, where Kiev will seek concrete guarantees for further support, including modern missiles, defense systems and renewed economic aid. Diplomatic sources say a draft 20-point agreement is already circulating between Washington, London and Brussels, which includes sharing responsibilities for Ukraine's reconstruction and its gradual inclusion in the Euro-Atlantic security architecture.

The visit to Canada has once again confirmed the role of this country as a steadfast ally of Ukraine, but also as a strategic partner in facing the global challenges of security, stability and the protection of democratic values in Eastern Europe. At a time when Russia is trying to exploit the fatigue of the West, Zelensky's visit was a direct diplomatic act to renew international support and prevent any signal of weakness that could translate into advantage for the Kremlin.
